Abillene Reporter-News (Abilene, Texas), June 21, 1936

WPA workers in the Nolan County, Texas WPA sewing room created this commemorative quilt designed by Mabel Wright of Sweetwater, Texas, in their “off hours.” The usual quilt is remarkable in its design. The women presented it to the assistant director of district 13, WPA, who gave it to the Texas Centennial. The article states that an identical quilt was presented to Vice President John Garner, of Uvalde, Texas.

Mabel Wright was one of the WPA sewing room workers, described as a “skillful designer and draftsman” who worked drafting machine parts.
